An easy circular hiking route through the villages of Val di Zoldo and Zoppè di Cadore
Officially launched in 2014 as part of the "Bergsteigerdörfer – Mountaineering villages" project, the Piccolo Anello Zoldano (Little Zoldo Ring Trail) is a loop hike that follows the old links between the Val di Zoldo villages and includes an additional detour to Zoppè di Cadore.
The low elevation, slight elevation changes, and the easy trail, mostly along paths and forest roads, make the circuit also suitable for untrained hikers interested in delving into the cultural aspects and historical facts of villages, alongside the great natural and landscape value, to discover evocative corners in still unspoiled hamlets that are sometimes unknown even to locals.
Features and notes
The suggested hikes, which connect the Val di Zoldo villages and Zoppè di Cadore, do not involve mountaineering difficulty (except in winter weather conditions).
The route consists of 6 stages: the first 5 form the circuit departing from and arriving in Forno di Zoldo; the sixth stage is a round trip along the same route.
Distance and elevation: 30.4 km (24.5 km for the loop hike covering the first 5 stages and 5.9 km for stage 6, for a total elevation gain of 1800 m).
Hiking time: the Piccolo Anello Zoldano round trip can be completed in 12 hours, with an additional 3 hours (one way) for the Villanova-Zoppè di Cadore section.
Hiking times are calculated based on the direct route between departure and arrival at a tourist pace. With a careful visit to each village (recommended), the loop hike ideally requires at least two days.
Each stage takes an average of 2 hours and 30 minutes, with an elevation change from about 160 to 550 metres.
Directions and signals: the Piccolo Anello Zoldano circuit has its own route signage, intentionally unobtrusive and limited, matching the Villaggi degli Alpinisti (Mountaineering Villages) shielded logo. We strongly recommend following the proposed direction (clockwise).
Equipment and gear: normal hiking gear is sufficient: hiking boots for rough terrain, clothing suitable for changeable weather conditions, a water bottle (water is easily available along the trail), food, a route map.
Before hiking, always check trail conditions and accessibility.
