Hike to the foot of Mount Pelmo, showing its most characteristic and majestic side.
It starts in Zoppè di Cadore, a very picturesque and fascinating village.
Park towards the end of the village, on the right past the junction to the Rifugio Talamini or a little farther up at the Malga Livan. From the hut, continue along the road until you reach a curve with a wayside shrine and from there turn left staying on the forest road in the direction of the Rifugio Venezia.
The trail is not difficult but there can be avalanche danger passed the junction with the Malga Rutorto up to a small bridge. From here, continue on the open area to the Passo Rutorto and the nearby mountain hut.
For your way back, you can go down trail 471, starting at a very panoramic curve with a wayside shrine, until you reach the village of Zoppè.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: "Giro del Pena" (more difficult)
You can choose this challenging alternative route that mostly winds through the woods along slopes that are a bit steep at times. The track meanders along paths that are not easy to locate and requires a good sense of direction. The snow can change a lot due to the different exposure of the trail.
Before embarking in a winter excursion, check out weather forecasts and snow conditions.
We remind you that from January 1st, 2022 a new legislation on winter excursions is on force: self-rescue disposals are mandatory for all winter excursionists in avalanche prone environments.
