Nordic skiing and biathlon in the Val di Zoldo
The sport with the longest tradition in the valley is cross-country skiing, which has always brought renown to the Val di Zoldo, with several locals taking part in World Championships and Olympic Games and important national and international competitions, and bringing home a host of medals.
The Val di Zoldo and the surrounding areas offer a variety of opportunities both for fans of the discipline and those looking to give it a try.
One example are the Palafavera runs, also with artificial snow since 2017 and the only biathlon facility in the Veneto region, the Centro Fondo Peronaz circuit, just 8 km approx. from Palafavera, and the Cibiana Pass circuit (about 1 km from the village of Forno).

Palafavera biathlon center
The new Biathlon Shooting Range was officially inaugurated in the 2014 with the pre-Olympic meeting of the Italian National team (winner of a bronze medal in the medley relay in the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and in the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics).
Since 2014, the Cross-Country Skiing Centre has also been equipped with a regulation shooting range with 30 positions for biathlon athletes, the only facility of its kind in the province of Belluno and the Veneto Region. The shooting range is designed for the use of a .22 calibre rifle, the regulation weapon for biathlon, either from the ground or standing up, and it is also equipped with manually operated Kurvinen targets; there are also five 10-metre shooting lines for athletes under 15 (who use compressed air rifles with a lower calibre). In 2014, the Biathlon Centre hosted a retreat of the Italian National Biathlon team in preparation for the Sochi Winter Olympics, and almost every year it is chosen to host regional or national competitions.
At the entrance of the Cross Country Ski Centre there is a training ground for beginners; all the tracks of the Palafavera Centre are homologated for national and international competitions. Furthermore, there are a ticket/information office, locker rooms with bathrooms and showers, a ski room and the offices of the Nordic Ski School.
Cross-country and biathlon centre is open from Thursday December 8th 2022
